If you feel passionately about Dance and want to develop your skills further in a vocational setting this is the course for you.
Dance is a challenging yet extremely rewarding subject. It is designed to prepare you for the exciting and diverse industry of Performing Arts, using dance as a focus area. This course is delivered mainly through practical work, designed to develop students’ technical and expressive skills through performance.
It will allow you to experiment with your own ideas and dance styles developing your creative skills in choreography. You will also study dance practitioners and analyse professional work. There will be a number of performance opportunities during this two year course, alongside workshops with visiting professional artists and visits to see professional work.

Unit 2: Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance (Mandatory Unit)
Unit 3: Performance Workshop (External Assessment)
Unit 12: Contemporary Dance Technique

Careers and Higher Education

Due to the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you could progress straight into employment opportunities and if successful there are a wide variety of prospective careers that you can explore, for example: dancer, entertainment manager, TV/ commercial/ entertainment work or community dance worker. You may also wish to continue your studies onto Higher Education. Successful BTEC National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications and you may wish to continue onto a Degree level qualification in Performing Arts or another subject of your choice.

BTEC Level 3

Assessment

Unit 1 is a written external assessment - 90 Guided Learning hours
Unit 2 is a practical and written set assignment - 90 Guided Learning hours
Unit 3 is practical assessment, marked externally - 120 Guided Learning hours
Unit 12 is a practical and written set assignment - 60 Guided Learning hours

Entry Requirements

Grade 6 in GCSE Dance or BTEC equivalent or relevant dance experience
